The Dragon's Tale_Front Cover_JPEG.jpg

In the universe next door is a world where Magic is Alive and Wizards, Elves and Dragons still live.

At the beginning of the six century CE, those with natural magical abilities and/or the gift of prophecy, were inundated with grim visions of an imminent worldwide cataclysm; one that would trigger a chain of events; including famine, plague and mass migrations of peoples. This planetary catastrophe would reshape the world for centuries to come.

The world that rose from the ashes would hate and deny both Magic and Magic users. New religions would arise. Established religions would begin a series of wars with the new, only to splinter into multiple sects; each claiming to be the one right and true path to God.

As horrifying as these calamities stretching through history were, further ahead, the seers foresaw the wholesale ecological destruction of the planet and its inevitable culmination.

History doesn’t record who first conceived of using Magic to separate the entire world into two distinct analogous domains; one mundane and one magical. Nevertheless, the idea rapidly took hold.

Magic wielders of all races gathered together to cast the Great Spell. Wizards who’d warred with each other for centuries put aside their differences long enough to enact the Great Working. It was the greatest magical undertaking ever attempted and nothing since has even come close.

The result was the Sundering. Where once was one world, now two exist, each geographically identical to the other. Nearly all of the inherent Magic of the original reality was concentrated in the Magical World, though only a fraction of the population escaped there.

Despite the enormous Magical power marshaled, the Great Spell will not last indefinitely. The two worlds will eventually reintegrate. No one knows when. In order to be effective, the Working had to last at least 1,500 years.

That was roughly 1,450 years ago.
